Based on the successful experience of Adivasi Development Programmes, NABARD had embarked upon an ambitious programme of replicating the wadi (a small orchard of one or two acres with multiple crops) model across the country. But in a place like Attappady instead of cultivating fruit bearing plants NABARD advised SVMM to concentrate on Medicinal Plant cultivation . It helped that wild animals did not enter the properties that had medicinal plants.

The Project was inaugurated on May 6th in an official function held at Vechappathy School Ground by Hon. Mannarkkad MLA  Sri. Adv. N. Shamsudheen. CGM and DDM of NABARD and LDM of Canara Bank, President and Vice President of Sholayur Grama Panchayath, Attappady Block Member, Officials of other Govt. Departments and Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Trust members were present at the function. At the function trust President Sri. VPS menon and SVMM Chief Medical Officer and Trust member Dr. V. Narayanan  presented mementos to Mannarkkad MLA and NABARD CGM.
