Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission started an Alcohol De-addiction Project in Attappady in 2012.Since then the mission has been conducting awareness classes on alcohol dependence and its solutions in tribal villages along with screening and motivation camps for persons to opt for de-addiction.
Distribution of educational leaflets, awareness rallies etc are regular part of such awareness activities. Persons dependent on alcohol are identified at awareness camps and motivated to undergo de-addiction.
Patients with good motivation levels are admitted to our hospital and given detoxification and counselling for de-addiction. So far more than 250 patients have been treated under this project. An Alcoholic Anonymous group has been formed in the area and all persons completing de-addiction are enrolled in the group.
